How to Get Flower Delivery TODAY – For All You Procrastinators

5 min

You know what sneaks up on you? Valentine’s Day! Sure, starting Dec. 26, stores do switch from their jolly holiday displays to all things red and pink, but that means it’s far too easy to get lulled into complacency and assume you’ve got all the time in the world to get your flower order in. Suddenly, it’s February cough cough something and you’re standing there rose-less, like a rejected candidate on “The Bachelor.”

Before you give up and take a shovel to steal flowers out of your neighbor’s garden, we’ve got tips on how you can find flowers last-minute (including last-minute flower delivery), without completely going broke. Here’s what to know about getting flower delivery today. Wherever you end up getting flowers from, check out our cash back shopping offers — we’ll give you a percentage BACK of what you spend.

1. Bad News First: Prepare to Pay an Extra Fee

Wherever you’re ordering from, when you’re trying to get flowers delivered last-minute on or around Valentine’s day, you will pay more. For one, if you want them delivered on February 14, that may involve a surcharge, since many floral delivery companies tack on an additional delivery surcharge in addition to the regular delivery fee for bringing your blooms on Valentine’s Day itself, due to high demand. (Set a reminder now so this doesn’t happen if you want to send mom a bouquet on Mother’s Day!) That’s not always the case, though. You’ll see if a delivery surcharge is required when you hit the calendar screen to schedule your delivery:

Many flower delivery companies also charge a surcharge for next-day delivery, no matter what the day. So if you’re first thinking about ordering flowers on Feb. 12 or 13, paying an extra delivery fee will likely be your only option.

Not only that, but some of the biggest budget-friendly buys offered from each retailer won’t be available this close to the wire, so don’t expect to find major bargains on tried-and-true roses or tulips when trying to order flowers at the 11th hour.

2. Here’s the Good News: You Can Still Get Flowers Last-Minute

Many businesses will still get your loved one their flowers on time — even during these busiest of days. After all, you’re hardly the only person who didn’t take care of this early. Do be aware a same-day option may not be available in all locations, the cut-off time tends to be fairly early in the day, many flowers will be sold out and you may have to pay that extra fee we mentioned above.

All that said, the best flower delivery services have your back and may offer same-day delivery where you need it.

3. Flower Delivery Services Offering Same-Day Delivery

Here are the top spots to find same-day gifts — as well as ways to save more through RetailMeNot’s coupons, discounts, and codes.

4. However, If You Have Time, Opt for Next-Day Delivery

The more time you give yourself, the better as far as avoiding last-minute, day-of delivery-fees. This also opens up possible flower options that might be sold out on, say, midnight of February 13. In addition to the above-mentioned brands that offer next-day in addition to same-day delivery, other popular flower delivery services that offer next-day delivery include:

5. What About Your Local Friendly Neighborhood Florist?

Have you used Floom yet? Through them, you can find local florists in your community who offer same-day and next-day delivery. It’s all the convenience of online shopping with all of the personalization of shopping local.

6. Let an Instacart Shopper Help You Out!

Too late to order online from a flower service? Try Instacart. You can search for flowers available for delivery or pickup near you and let your personal shopper handle the job (and make you look good). Here’s a guide on how to order flowers from Instacart on Valentine’s Day. In short, if your local grocery store has flowers, you can likely order them via Instacart, if you’d rather not go to the store yourself.

7. Peer Past the Rosebush

Roses are gorgeous, meaningful, and so, so symbolic, but they’re not the only game in town, says Nancy J. Lee, an event and commercial floral designer and owner of Petals & Moss Floral Design. Lee previously told RetailMeNot that all flowers can be romantic, so not to worry if the roses near you are sold out, or you think your loved one would prefer a different type of flower or plant instead. (You could even swing by Michael’s and pick up pretty faux flowers.)

8. Head to a Warehouse or Big Box Store

Costco, Sam’s Club, BJ’s Wholesale, Walmart. These businesses aren’t going to be caught flat-footed, so they won’t leave you high and dry. Their arrangements are reasonably-priced and, no surprise, big. Even better, you may be able to get a delivery or set up a curbside pickup to save yourself time.

9. Stop At Your Local Supermarket

If all else fails, your local supermarket will have something — be it a single wrapped rose, a bouquet, a pretty plant, and of course, tons of chocolate. Whatever it is, you taking the time to pick up a gift for the people you care about the most will be appreciated. Plenty of grocery stores also have grab-and-go Valentine’s Day tables with bundled packages of flowers, chocolates and a heat-and-serve dinner.
